After weeks of mandatory overtime with the 9-5 job, fitting in workouts, bonding with my neti pot to heal a cold, editing countless images, revising tags, & filtering out non-related posts, The Decor Guru is finally running at full force!
Hey, I get it: change is scary and familiarity equals comfort. To ease the transition to you, my dear fans, I haven’t made too many changes. The direction was for the rebranded site to be simple and to-the-point. While I changed the logo to match my new name, it’s still similar to the former set-up as The DIY Homegirl.
However, there was one huge change: the content. This blog has come a long way, morphing from my work as a watercolorist, to the start of my DIY/decorating journey, to freelance writing for the Toledo City Paper. Add to that a few other lifestyle topics like recipes and DIY fashion, and you have a whole lotta stuff to sort through.
To remedy this diverse plethora of topics, I changed my focus to writing only about decor. Specifically, real world decorating. More specifically, me helping you decorate for the real world. (You can find out more of my real world philosophy here.)
You will now only find decorating tips, DIY tutorials, room reveals and makeovers, and inspiration like moodboards. You’ll see more apartment decorating featured, like in my Living In A White Box series. In the future, I’d also like to showcasing area designers and house tours. And of course, I’ll continue making over my home in the colorholic, multiple-style loving manner in which you’re accustomed.
Also in the works is another site for all things not related to decor, where I’ll write on just about anything else: recipes, other DIY projects, the evolution of my hair, etc. The non-decor posts previously housed here will be transferred to this site as well, so you’ll still have access to those… more to come on that down the road. But first, I’ve got to tend to the rest of my mid-life crisis and search for a new car. Wish me luck!
Have you ever changed up your website/blog? Do you prefer sites that focus on only one topic or those that dabble in a variety of topics? What do you think of the new changes here?
